Barren - A freeware 2D point and click adventure game

Barren is classic point and click adventure game played through the eyes of the player (scene by scene movement) released few days ago. The story is placed in a SF-phantasmagoria type of setting where you play a person of unknown origin stranded in a strange dreamlike place. It’s a relatively short adventure game, but features a fair of amount of cut scenes and cool atmosphere.

    Download (Windows): Barren_v11.zip (16.6 MB)
Linux executables (you might have problems setting up FMOD there): Barren_Linux_EXEs.tar.gz

    Screenshots:

The project was started long time ago during 2002 (as a QB program) without a clear goal, which resulted in several aspect of the game being quite clumsy. The source code passed through several overhauls, and the final version of the scripting system was a nightmare to manage. Nevertheless, somehow the game got completed.

Visit my website for more details.

    Thank you for downloading.

    Want to be a Gymnast?

Enjoy the things, your body won’t do, virtually!

    Gymnast Screen 1Gymnast Screen 2

A developer, that as far as I can tell goes by the name of walaber, has created and released a game that allows you to be a gymnast in his cleverly titled game Gymnast. In Gymnast you play the role of exactly that and you control it with a dual analog controller in the assumption that you have one. It’s quite addicting and enjoyable, the novelty of the thing is one of its greatest feats.

Gymnast is a physics-based acrobatic game with 100% analog controls. The game makes use of a modern gamepad, using the analog thumbsticks to give 1-to-1 control over the joints on a gymnast character.

You can visit the website to download here.

    Bontãgo

This game developed by Juniors at DigiPen Institute of Technology, looks very unique and very cool!

    bontago1bontago3bontago2bontago4

Bontago is an intense single or multiplayer 3d real-time strategy game. Players begin with flags (one color for each player) spaced evenly around the edge of a large disk, called the field, balanced on a fulcrum in the center. Around each flag is a circle representing that player’s controlled area. Every few seconds a block appears on each player’s cursor. The players must place the blocks somewhere in their controlled areas. Players can place the block at any moment in the allotted time, or can hold it until time is up and the block will fall on its own and be replaced by the next block. The goal of the game is to encompass all of the world flags in the controlled area.

Although the rules are simple, strategic thinking, quick reflexes, and a bit of luck is required to win this game.

Sounds like fun, doesn’t it :D Download the game here. Their site seems to be down, now and then, so if you can’t download it try again later.

    Harvest: Massive Encounter

    h:me

This amazing-looking game, courtesy of Oxeye Games, is worth all of the hype it is getting. The guys over at Oxeye certainly know the niche in the games market - bringing us an outstanding Real-Time Strategy (RTS).

You must build your base, gather resources and fend off endless hordes of aliens. The game uses a highly optimized engine perfectly suited for epic battles with literally thousands of enemies!

But like with any RTS, there’s more to it than that! There’s a complete storyline to it and many more in-depth details about various enemies and their attributes and weaknesses. Being a full-fledged RTS, you’d expect a price-tag, and that’s unfortunately what you get. However, you may download the demo to ‘wet your appetite’, or find out how the game plays, right here.

    Cow Racing!

“Spike!” has released a demo version of this awesome looking little online racing game, where members race… yes, cows!

A few of the games current features -
    - Hosted on a dedicated server in europe
    - 2 - 8 players possible per race
    - A fully working ladder system
    - Ability to host / join games (the games are hosted on the server)

This hilarious and clever little game developed with Clickteam’s Multimedia Fusion (and I think, ‘MOO’, how ironic ^_^) is still in the beta stages, but why not give it a try and leave some feedback for it, at least? ‘Don’t have a cow, man’? Click here :)

Also, sorry for the lack of updates at the moment - but remember WE NEED YOUR NEWS!! Also, our editors have either been extremely busy or undergoing tough times right now - however, we are looking for editors at the moment. If you fancy a go at being an editor here at toastface, please contact us!

    Open Transport Tycoon Deluxe

The guys over at OpenTTD have long been working on this awesome game.

    OpenTTD1OpenTTD3OpenTTD2

OpenTTD is a clone of the Microprose game “Transport Tycoon Deluxe”, a popular game originally written by Chris Sawyer. It attempts to mimic the original game as closely as possible while extending it with new features.

It shouldn’t take a genius to work out that this game is also open-source, and will run on any operating system (well, most) - including Mac OS X and Linux (Debain/Ubuntu)! If more games like this were made, perhaps Linux and Mac would be more popular? Windows surely dominate the gaming market at the moment, but who knows what the future holds? ^_^
