Barren - A freeware 2D point and click adventure game

Barren is classic point and click adventure game played through the eyes of the player (scene by scene movement) released few days ago. The story is placed in a SF-phantasmagoria type of setting where you play a person of unknown origin stranded in a strange dreamlike place. It’s a relatively short adventure game, but features a fair of amount of cut scenes and cool atmosphere.

    Download (Windows): Barren_v11.zip (16.6 MB)
Linux executables (you might have problems setting up FMOD there): Barren_Linux_EXEs.tar.gz

The project was started long time ago during 2002 (as a QB program) without a clear goal, which resulted in several aspect of the game being quite clumsy. The source code passed through several overhauls, and the final version of the scripting system was a nightmare to manage. Nevertheless, somehow the game got completed.

    Thank you for downloading.

    Powerball!

Remember that old puzzle game, Labyrinth? I used to LOVE that game! Well, “Zaiib” clearly shares my passion, since he has made a version for the PC!

Ok, so there’s lots of games like this… right? Wrong.

    powerball1

Powerball is a puzzle game where you have to tip a board in order to bring a ball into the target. On the way you can collect Items like coins, beam, switches (which open you doors to more coins). It’s based on the Ogre 3D Engine and was created during a University Project.

It supports Webcams (put a real board in front and move it) and Stereo view.

Sorry, what? It supports webcams?! I was ready to download and experiment with this awesome feature, but then I read -

“You have to compile it to install it on Linux”.

:| I really wanted to play this game, yet I don’t have Linux any more (though it’s tempting to get it again)! But… do you run Linux? If you do, please let us know how this game plays, because it sounds totally awesome and looks the part too ^_^ This game is also open-source.

    Open Transport Tycoon Deluxe

The guys over at OpenTTD have long been working on this awesome game.

    OpenTTD1OpenTTD3OpenTTD2

OpenTTD is a clone of the Microprose game “Transport Tycoon Deluxe”, a popular game originally written by Chris Sawyer. It attempts to mimic the original game as closely as possible while extending it with new features.

It shouldn’t take a genius to work out that this game is also open-source, and will run on any operating system (well, most) - including Mac OS X and Linux (Debain/Ubuntu)! If more games like this were made, perhaps Linux and Mac would be more popular? Windows surely dominate the gaming market at the moment, but who knows what the future holds? ^_^
